Original painting by world renowned Mexican artist Jesus "CHUCHO" Reyes Ferreira. Tempura on rice paper the painting is framed and depicts two fighting roosters. Known as the Mexican Chagall, this painting was personally given to my grandmother circa 1950 shortly after its creation.
Visionary, his particular aesthetic point of view is an example of Mexican modernism, Chucho Reyes employed the tempura technique, prepared by combining pigments with boiling water and vegetable glue. Subsequently, this work presents a "crackle" or "antique" effect, that the painter achieved by adding white lead to the mix.
With a marked expressionist character, the painter uses bold strokes of strong color with lines that close, open or move the space at will. The plasticity of rice paper and its fragile consistency is used in creating backgrounds, textures and colors.
The painting of Jesus Reyes Ferreira is built on three major themes: the still lives, the bestiary and the apocalyptic figures. These three manifestations are intertwined and mixed with each other to form the unity that characterizes his work.
